In the Mouth of Madness (1994) & Horror Writing Workshop

5th September, The Nests (formerly Clay) 2 Regent Street Leeds LS2 7QA

GORE is excited to host our first film screening & writing workshop in Leeds as a part of Scalarama Leeds DIY Film Festival 2026.

“Do you read Sutter Cane?”

The novels of best-selling horror author Sutter Cane (Jürgen Prochnow) drive his readers mad – and they can't get enough. But when the mysterious writer suddenly vanishes with the manuscript for his latest novel, his publishers bring in insurance investigator John Trent (Same Neill) to get Cane and the book back.

Trent hits the road with Cane's editor, Lynda Styles (Julie Carmen), following a trail of clues that take them to the town of Hobb's End–a dark & depraved place that only exists in Cane's stories–with no way out.

GORE is an international queer writing collective with roots in Leeds and Nottingham. We use horror cinema as inspiration for our darkest, strangest and most liberating imaginings.

We've been hosting workshops and publishing zines since 2022, and we're proud to be included in the amazing line-up for Scalarama and meet new horror fans and writers.

We'll be watching screening John Carpenter's In the Mouth of Madness and hosting a mini-version of our workshop where we'll cannibalise and transform ideas from the film for our own twisted ends. No previous writing experience required!

KEY INFO:

Select 'film screening only' to just see the film, or select 'film screening and writing workshop' to stay and write!

There's no extra charge to attend the writing workshop but places are limited.
